Do you have mold growth? Pipes bursting, flooding and leaking taps can all result in mold growth. Mold spores are found in the air outside, but when they build up in large concentrations inside a home, they can be cause for serious concern as they may result in health problems.
The most obvious signs of mold growth are in water stains or in the dark growth that is usually associated with mold. But mold also grows in places that are hard to see, such as between walls and in heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. In these cases, mold is often noticed through physical reactions that mimic allergy symptoms. If you find that every time you walk into your home your eyes itch, or you or someone in your family, including your pet, start sneezing, there could be cause for worry.
So what do you do? Call a mold remediation expert. At SoCal Construction & Design, owner John Thomson is trained in mold removal. If you have extensive mold growth, do not attempt to remove it yourself. Items such as carpets and furniture need to be properly disposed of and not just thrown in the dumpster. Respiratory masks, gloves, and special clothing all need to be worn to remove mold without causing physical reactions.
Some mold formations are toxic. Without knowing what you’re dealing with, it’s not worth risking your health. If your home has flooded, extensive repairs will most likely be needed. Call a professional out to inspect the home before moving back in. Smaller items that grow mold, such as clothing can often be saved by being washed in hot water with a bleach solution and thoroughly dried.
